Contract Law
Contract law encompasses agreements and relationships between parties — when a contract is unfulfilled or broken, or the parties involved dispute over any of its terms, they resort to contract litigation.
Contract law litigation can encompass some of these: breach of contract, interpretation of contract, damages or equitable remedies, and force majeure clauses (unforeseeable events preventing contract performance).
The principles encapsulated in the Indian Contract Act, 1872, are integral in defining essential elements and tenets of valid contracts. The Specific Relief Act, 1963, furnishes remedies for breaches of contract and permits parties to seek specific performance or damages for non-compliance. Further, the Sale of Goods Act, 1930, governs contracts for the sale of goods, outlining the rights and obligations of buyers and sellers.
